Today, things did not go the way I wanted.
Yesterday Grant's cold seemed to move a little toward the "not just a cold" when his fever hit 105.9. I called the doctor and listened to a long recorded message regarding flu-like symptoms and kept him home, pumped him with Motrin, and tried to keep him filled with fluids.
Today, he decided that eating and drinking were not activities he wanted to take part in, so I took him in to the doctor. They took every precaution and he got to wear a nice mask the entire time he was there. We called it his super-hero mask. He fought it at first, but then didn't seem to have the energy to care.
The good news is that he does not have the swine flu. The bad news is, he has pneumonia and they admitted him to the hospital.
I spent the day with him there, I held him as it took four tries to get and IV going and he cried and whimpered. But he did not fight or try to pull his arm away from the kind nurses, which was almost worse than if he had. I hate seeing him so weak and listless.
He is doing better now, after getting some antibiotics in and getting some IV fluids. The plan is to observe him overnight, as the re-hydration process can sometimes make the pneumonia worse and he might need supplemental oxygen.
We hope to have him home tomorrow, but we will have to see how the night goes.
He decided that he wanted to have his sleepover at the hospital with Daddy, so I am now at home with the other kids and Marty is with Grant.
Please keep us in your prayers. It is good to know that he will be just fine, he just needs a little help getting there. However, Ben is missing him, as this is their first night apart since, well, conception. Ben is sleeping with one of Grant's buddies tonight, and I am hoping that does the trick.
And for me, I am doing well, just drained and exhausted. Have a good night, and I'll try to update when I can tomorrow.
